New Licensing Arrangements for motorhomes/motorcaravans
From 1st August 2013 a change was introduced for the licensing of all vehicles type approval within the M1SP category and this includes motorhomes/motorcaravans.
Government (DCLG) has published a discussion paper on how rules for residential parks should be made in future.
Under provisions in the Mobile Homes Act 2013 there will be specific procedures for making rules and appealing rules, certain rules which will not be permitted and the role local authorities will play in future in respect of park rules.

STOP PRESS – Amendment tabled to stop the imposition of VAT on sale of caravan holiday homes
The NCC has been notified that Owen Smith, MP for Pontypridd and Shadow Exechequer Secretary to the Treasury has tabled a new clause to the Finance (no.4) Bill as a pre-emptive measure and which, if introduced, would stop the imposition of VAT on the sale of caravan holiday homes.
Recent press reports have once again highlighted the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning in leisure accommodation.
The NCC position statement on the Budget’s proposed imposition of VAT
The Budget contained a proposal to apply standard rate VAT (20 per cent) to caravan holiday homes from 1st October 2012.This proposal will not apply to touring caravans and motorhomes that already bear 20 per cent VAT. Caravan holiday homes have been zero rated since 1974 (although VAT has always been applied on the 'removable items' within them, where applicable).
Say NO! to Caravan Holiday Home Tax
The NCC and the industry have lobbied hard to warn of potentially dire consequences for both British manufacturing and for UK tourism if VAT at standard rate is imposed on caravan holiday homes in October.

The Former Director General of the NCC, Alan Bishop, has passed away at the age of 57.
Alan joined the NCC in July 1989 as Parks Director responsible for all legal and technical matters affecting both the holiday and park home sectors and the development of initiatives such as the Gold Shield 10 Year Warranty Scheme, the Quality Award Scheme and various Codes of Practice.

Park Resorts is predicting a strong summer after seeing a 34% increase in bookings year-on-year in the past two weeks

£25m to support rural tourism

Driving Licences for Tourers
A new B+E licence is required under new regulations to drive touring caravan outfits over 3500kg. This applies to licences issued on or after 1st January 1997, in the cases detailed in the following chart. Drivers who passed their test before this date retain their existing entitlement.

If there is one recent invention that has had more impact on the caravan market than any other it has to be the on board caravan mover. Not only has it extended the appeal of caravanning to a wider market but it has allowed many to have larger, heavier vans and to manoeuvre them into tight spaces at home and elsewhere.
