	The NCC has been notified that Owen Smith, MP for Pontypridd and Shadow Exechequer Secretary to the Treasury has tabled a new clause to the Finance (no.4) Bill as a pre-emptive measure and which, if introduced, would stop the imposition of VAT on the sale of caravan holiday homes. More Info

23/03/2012	The NCC position statement on the Budget’s proposed imposition of VAT
	The Budget contained a proposal to apply standard rate VAT (20 per cent) to caravan holiday homes from 1st October 2012.This proposal will not apply to touring caravans and motorhomes that already bear 20 per cent VAT. Caravan holiday homes have been zero rated since 1974 (although VAT has always been applied on the 'removable items' within them, where applicable). More Info

	This advice comes after two separate incidents recently where tests were carried out by the independent Council of Gas Detection & Environmental Monitoring (CoGDEM) on CO Alarms which had similar claims of compliance with the important safety standard EN 5029. These tests showed that performance on each was dangerously poor. More Info

	A new B+E licence is required under new regulations to drive touring caravan outfits over 3500kg. This applies to licences issued on or after 1st January 1997, in the cases detailed in the following chart. Drivers who passed their test before this date retain their existing entitlement. More Info

	If there is one recent invention that has had more impact on the caravan market than any other it has to be the on board caravan mover.
